NEW Prodigy 1911DS from Springfield Armory

Recently we’ve been seeing posts about a currently unannounced handgun from Springfield Armory, the Prodigy 1911DS. What exactly is the Prodigy 1911DS? Unfortunately there are still a lot of unanswered questions since we’re relying solely upon leaks on forums and social media posts.

The Prodigy 1911DS

So far we know that it is a double stack 1911 from Springfield Armory, a new addition to their lineup of pistols. There are currently 4.5 and 5 inch barrels, both chambered for 9mm. The Prodigy 1911DS come cut for optic plates, appearing with the HEX WASP micro red dot sight. I haven’t currently seen any information regarding magazine compatibility. MSRP appears to be $1499 and $1699 based upon numbers seen in a gun shop that set them out early. That price is with the optic cut.

That makes the Prodigy 1911DS significantly lower in price than something like the Staccato P Duo, which will likely be its closest competitor. We’ll see how the new pistol turns out in the long run, hopefully offering comparable quality to the TRP line of 1911’s. Primer Peak will post updates as more information becomes available.
