Taurus – SHOT Show 2024

Taurus has been stepping their game up over the past few years with really interesting releases. I stopped by their booth to see what was new for the upcoming year.

327 Defender TORO

Last year I did a long term review on the 856 TORO and walked away impressed with the optics mounting system. For 2024, Taurus is updating the design, bringing in the uber-hot .327 Federal Magnum cartridge. With this, users can get six rounds of their choice in .32 caliber projectiles in the gun. Compatible with .32 Short, .32 Long, .32 H&R Magnum, and .327FED, shooters have a lot of options on their hands. All of this while still maintaining the solid TORO optic system.

Changes from previous designs include a redesigned hammer and trigger interface, which substantially improve the trigger compared to the 856. This is about on par with their Executive Series in terms of trigger press. Additionally, Hogue grips come standard to help soak up magnum recoil.

The 327 Defender TORO has an MSRP of $554 and is available now.

Expedition Bolt Action Rifle – SHOT Show Range Day

In an unexpected turn of events, Taurus recently announced a new bolt action rifle, the Expedition. Quoted at sub-MOA accuracy, the Expedition comes standard in .308WIN and 6.5CM with a DLC coated 18-inch barrel. Muzzles are capped off with 1/2×28 thread pitch for suppressors or other muzzle devices. Each Expedition comes with a proprietary five-round magazine, but Magpul magazines are fully compatible with the gun.

MLOK slots can be found on the underside of the forend for accessory mounting, as can a Spartan attachment for tripods and the like. The rifle is based on the Remington 700, meaning barrels, stocks, and more are readily available for customization.

MSRP on the Taurus Expedition is expected to be $935. The rifle will be available by the end of Q1 this year.

Taurus 605 Executive Grade

Those wanting an Executive Grade gun in .357 Magnum can rejoice! Taurus is bringing the 605 to the front line with the Executive Line. This 5-shot .357 Magnum revolver gets the standard improvements in finish, trigger quality, and QC as others in the line.

The Taurus 605 Executive Grade

Unlike the 856 Executive, the 605 maintains its hammer spur thanks to customer requests. In a nod to the Judge Executive, front sights are a brass rod, for improved sight picture and durability.

The 605 Executive has an MSRP of $757 and is available now.
